The cast, many of whom are debuting in the film, announced the date of launch with a live billboard on Mumbai’s Western Express Highway on Tuesday morning.

The makers also shared a new poster and captioned it as, “Archie, Jug, Betty, Veronica & the rest of the gang are about to take the stage in India.”
Interestingly, the new promo pic got mixed reactions from fans around the world who only just bid goodbye to the characters in the Riverdale series. The show which came to a close after seven drama-filled seasons, had a rather ‘wild’ finale which suggested that the lead pairs – Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead were involved in a quad relationship. “Thought you got rid of Riverdale? The Archies is coming Dec. 7,” wrote a fan on Twitter.
Some expressed their excitement abot the Indian adaptation, saying, “idc what yall say I wanna watch that indian version of the Archies.”
Another said, “Indian version of The Archies? I’d give that a shot.”
Another addded, “The characters return in a Netflix musical that feels more faithful to the comics than the series.”
However, there were several others who seemed rather skeptical about the film saying, “Will it be better than Riverdale? That show left me with a horrible perception of the Archies.”
“Oh please don’t, we just got rid of them,” another suggested.
“This looks worse than Riverdale,” said another.
There were some others who questioned the casting choices in the film and asked, “Why do Indian movies seemingly always exclusively cast the most European looking Indian people?”
“For the love of God why can’t we have a cast that best represents the characters from the original content?” asked another.
While another predicted, “This is for every Indian who wishes India wasn’t poor, or brown, or looked or dressed or acted like India…so it should be a hit.”
The Archies, is touted to be a coming-of-age musical which follows the lives of Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel and Dilton in a fictional Anglo-Indian hilly town of Riverdale. Set in the 1960s, the film will explore friendship, freedom, love, heartbreak and rebellion.
The Indian adaptation of the beloved comics will see Dot play Ethel Muggs, Agastya Nanda as the charming and talented Archie Andrews, Khushi Kapoor will play the role of Betty Cooper, Mihir Ahuja as the always hungry Jughead Jones, Veronica Lodge will be portrayed by Suhana Khan, Heartthrob Reggie Mantle will be showcased by Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda will play Dilton Doiley.
