When Ghai was asked if he was confident about the movie and that it would be remembered after so many years, here’s how he responded. Ghai said, “I was always quite confident but as a director you have your moments of nervousness too. But Sanju was more confident than me about the movie.”
The filmmaker further took a jibe at Dutt and said, “Yeh bolta tha, yeh picture bohot door tak jaayegi par dekhta tha Madhuri ki taraf.” Dutt was shocked at this comment and laughed while remaining silent. For those not in the now, rumours have been rife for years that during those times, Madhuri and Sanjay were in a relationship. They’ve worked together in many movies, including the other iconic movie, ‘Saajan’.
On a more serious note, Ghai thanked every technician who worked in the movie. Right from music composers Laxmikant Pyarelal to lyricist Anand Bakshi. He also remembered the late Saroj Khan for his brilliant choreography, especially for ‘Choli Ke Peeche’. Jackie Shroff who was also present at the event recalled memories of shooting and said they would do anything that Ghai told them to.
Sharing another fun anecdote about the movie, Jackie recalled that once Subhash Ghai saw two monkeys on the tree and then made Dutt and Jackie do a monkey fight on the tree and they couldn’t even say no. “Uss waqt hum naa nahi bol sakte the aur hamare paas insurance bhi nahi tha,” laughed Jackie.
But the actors gave credit to Ghai for making the film what it is today!
