The film earned an estimated collection of Rs 29.50 crore nett on its first Monday. While it is an impressive number, it still stands second to theSunny Deol starrer Gadar 2 which earned an estimated Rs 38.36 crore at the box office. Coming in third place for film’s released in 2023, is SRK’s January release Pathaan, which earned an estimated Rs 24.51 crore.
It is essential to recognize that while Jawan has been earning the big bucks without the backing of a holiday weekend, Gadar 2’s record-breaking Monday collection was possible thanks to the Independence Day holiday that followed on Tuesday.Despite facing stiff competition from the India vs Pakistan cricket match, ‘Jawan’ fell just short of a few lakhs to meet the Rs 30 crore nett mark on Monday. Impressively, Jawan managed to outperform Pathaan by a substantial margin on Monday, with the latter coming off a five-day weekend.
The admissions on Monday only dropped by approximately 20% compared to Friday, primarily attributed to the adjustment of ticket rates from their elevated levels.
The film currently occupies the sixth spot on the list of the highest-grossing Monday collections of all time. It stands only behind, ‘Bahubali: The Conclusion’ which occupies the No 1 spot with a collection of Rs 39.81 crore. Gadar 2 follows close behind with a collection of Rs 38.36 crore, Salman Khan‘s Tiger Zinda Hai with a holiday collection of Rs 36.53 crore, Akshay Kumar’s Housefull 4 which earned Rs 34.12 crore on a Monday holiday and Hrithik Roshan’s superhero film Krrish 3 which earned Rs 29.64 crore, also on a holiday.
‘Jawan’ has made an indelible mark on the box office with its astounding Monday performance, solidifying SRK as the King of Bollywood.
While it may not have climbed its way to the top of the list to record the highest Monday collection, the action thriller has recorded the highest first-weekend collection at the box office, with a collection of Rs 520.79 crore gross at the worldwide box office in its first weekend.
At the worldwide box office, the high-octane action thriller collected Rs 129.6 crore on day one, making it the biggest opening day in the history of Hindi cinema globally. The film went on to earn Rs 110.87 crore on day two, Rs 144.22 crore on day three and made Rs 136.1 crore on the fourth day.
Directed by Tamil filmmaker Atlee, the pan-India film also stars Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi as well as Deepika Padukone in a special appearance. It hit the screens worldwide on September 7 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
