SGPC files complaint against the makers of ‘Yaariyan 2’ for hurting Sikh sentiments | Hindi Movie News

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has initiated strict legal action against the upcoming movie ‘Yaariyan 2′ for allegedly featuring a “kirpan”, a symbol of the Sikh faith, in the song ‘Saure Ghare’ which has hurt the Sikh sentiments.
The apex gurdwara body secretary, Partap Singh, filed a complaint with the Amritsar police commissioner on Tuesday, August 29. However, the makers of ‘Yaariyan 2’ claimed the actor is wearing a ‘khukri’ (a curved knife) and not a ‘kirpan’ and that they have no intention to offend or disrespect any religious beliefs.
Meanwhile, the SGPC demanded an immediate ban on this film and its video song on the YouTube web platform from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Information Technology and Electronics, and Central Film Board of Certification. “The producer, director, and actor of the film did not do it right by presenting Sikh Kakaar Kirpan against Sikh principles and maryada (conduct). Moreover, the T-series company has made a mistake by publishing anti-Sikh visuals on its YouTube channel. Appreciating the Sikh sentiments, the SGPC will not allow this film to be released at any cost.” the SGPC said on ‘X’.
“An official of T-Series, Rahul Dubey, has spoken to the SGPC, who has been clearly told that this controversial video song should be removed from the YouTube channel immediately. He said that according to Rahul Dubey, T-Series might consider removing scenes that hurt Sikh sentiments from the entire film,” it said.
Yaariyan 2 is a coming-of-age comedy drama featuring Divya Khosla Kumar, Yash Dasgupta, Meezaan Jafri, Pearl Puri, Warina Hussain and Priya Prakash Varrier. It is reportedly a remake of the Malayalam film ‘Bangalore Days’ starring Nazriya Nazim, Fahadh Faasil, Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly.
